Books and other materials will be gladly accepted as gifts on the condition that the Library Director or any delegated staff has the authority to make whatever decision they deem advisable. The library reserves the right to reject any donations, in consideration of limited space or whether the item is relevant for the library. Moreover, the library is not required to keep donated items, and may sell, donate, or discard them at any time if deemed necessary. For materials which were published more than five years prior to the date of donation, the library will not accept the item, unless it is deemed valuable or essential to the collection, or is deemed to have high demand for resale.
Gifts of money, real property, and/or estates will be accepted if conditions attached to such gifts are acceptable to the Library Board and Library Director.
Personal property, art objects, portraits, antiques, and other materials that would be classed as “museum pieces” will not be accepted if they cannot be safely or adequately housed by the Valley Museum and Archives Society. When approached with potential museum materials, library staff will direct the individual to the museum staff or provide contact information if they are unavailable.
